KATHMANDU: An avalanche is suspected to have caused severe flooding in the Khumbu region of Nepal’s Solukhumbu district. The flood struck the Thame area of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality-5 following the bursting of snow in the Dudhkoshi River.
Local authorities, including police and army personnel, have been dispatched to the affected area. Chief District Officer Devi Pandey (Khatri) mentioned that it is not yet confirmed whether an avalanche or another event triggered the flood.
Two hotels have already been destroyed by the floodwaters, and there is currently no confirmed information on human casualties. Ngwang Jangmu Sherpa, a ward member, reported that the flood has severely impacted many houses, with at least 70 homes completely submerged. Approximately 40 percent of the village’s houses have been devastated.
