KATHMANDU: A road section in Sohrakhutte, Kathmandu, caved in early Wednesday morning. The acting ward chair of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, Pushpa Maharjan, reported that a loud sound was heard at around 5:30 AM, followed by water leakage and the collapse of the road. An 11-foot-deep pothole formed at the Sohrakhutte-Balaju road section. A motorbike to fell in, thankfully the rider is safe.

Initially, locals suspected that the water leakage was from an old pipeline laid during the tenure of Prime Minister Juddha Shamsher. However, water continued to leak even after closing the pipeline, leading to the belief that the water source itself might have burst. The Police confirmed that the motorbike rider was unharmed.

Vehicular movement has been halted since early morning due to the water leakage. Despite efforts by the road division office to address the issue, the leakage has not ceased, posing ongoing challenges. Preparations are being made to gravel the road and resume traffic as soon as the water leakage stops.
