KATHMANDU: Since the country's monsoon season began, monsoon-related calamities have claimed the lives of 28, left one person missing, and wounded 25 others. The impact of these tragedies was described in detail by Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal during today's National Assembly meeting in response to questions posed under the Appropriations Bill, 2081. He stated that 36 residences were partially damaged and 46 dwellings were fully demolished on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.
When Minister Aryal gave an update on the monsoon disasters for the current fiscal year, it was discovered that 24 people had perished from landslides, 19 had been injured, and 4 had died from floods. Additionally, was one person reported missing, and two were injured. In addition, 93 lightning occurrences caused 19 deaths and 35 injuries, while four persons were hurt by the intense rain. He said that lightning had struck 32 regions, and different tragedies had claimed the lives of 171 cattle.
Minister Aryal also highlighted the implementation of the Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan, 2081, for disaster management. He stated that organizational responsibilities have been assigned to protect vulnerable areas based on assessed risks. The District Disaster Management Committee, chaired by the Chief District Officer, is overseeing a program to safeguard people by establishing a 'command post' as part of the plan.
In addition, impacted families have received cash support as well as relief supplies. The state government gave Rs 300,000 to the deceased's family while the district disaster management fund gave Rs 500,000. Tents, blankets, kitchenware, rice, lentils, oil, sugar, and soap were given to the grieving family along with Rs 15,000 and other daily requirements.
