KATHMANDU: Important Lichchhavi-era artifacts from the eighth or ninth century have been discovered during the Matheshwarnath Temple excavation in Dhanusha Municipality's Ward 6. On June 21, the Department of Archaeology, led by archaeologist Prakash Darnal, began excavations. The discovery, which includes coins, inscriptions, and other things believed to be over a thousand years old, highlights the temple's historical significance.
The unique Lichchhavi style of the unearthed inscriptions and artifacts provides important context for understanding the cultural and historical background of that time period. These discoveries, according to Darnal and his colleagues, may provide new light on the ancient history of the area and the significance of the Lichchhavi civilization.
The goal of the continuing excavation is to discover and conserve these priceless historical remnants in order to contribute to a wider understanding of Nepal's past civilizations and to the country's rich legacy.
