KATHMANDU: The Boksi rivulet in Thasang Rural Municipality-2, Mustang district, which had been blocked by an avalanche from the Manapathi Mountain in the Dhawalagiri glacier, resumed flowing after about 13 hours on Wednesday morning. The avalanche occurred on Tuesday evening, completely blocking the rivulet and drying it up due to the accumulation of snow and debris.
Gautam Sherchan, the ward chair of Thasang-2 and spokesperson of the municipal executive, reported that the rivulet, which had been blocked since Tuesday evening, began flowing again as the snow piled up in gorges was gradually melted by the water current. Precautionary measures were taken in the embankment areas as the water level started to rise.
In response to the situation, nine houses in the embankment areas were evacuated and relocated to safer locations overnight. Despite the severity of the avalanche and landslide, no human casualties or physical damages were reported, according to Bhim Prasad Thakali, a ward member of Thasang-2.
The accumulation of snow extended about one kilometer below Mulkharka along the rivulet, but the swift response and precautionary measures ensured the safety of the residents and prevented any significant damage.
