KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is set to review a writ petition challenging the formation of the Koshi Provincial government on Wednesday. Filed by outgoing Chief Minister (CM) Kedar Karki, the petition argues that the appointment of Hikmat Karki from the CPN-UML as Chief Minister was unconstitutional.

Karki's petition calls for the removal of the new CM and his own reinstatement. Previously, during a preliminary hearing, the court had summoned responses from the defendant on May 10 and documentation regarding the CM's appointment process on May 22.

The Province Chief, Parshuram Khapung, ousted Kedar Karki from his post after he failed to secure a vote of confidence within the mandated 30 days following the withdrawal of support by UML lawmakers, as stipulated by the constitution. Subsequently, Chief Khapung appointed Hikmat Karki to the position.
