KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has promised to launch a rehabilitation and reconstruction campaign right away for people impacted by the recent floods and landslides brought on by the persistent rains that fell on September 27 and 28.
PM Oli underlined the need for a plan for a secure and integrated settlement to be advanced as soon as possible while accepting a memorandum from an all-party delegation of Khotang district at his home in Baluwatar.
PM Oli was briefed by the delegation on the disaster's losses and damages, emphasizing the need for immediate restoration in the Khotang district.
PM Oli stated that the Council of Ministers and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority would convene on Thursday to decide on issues including the restoration of damaged bridges, shelter arrangements, and the initial distribution of relief.
He pointed out that although landslides blocked the main roads that led to the Kathmandu Valley, alternate routes greatly aided in reestablishing connection.
Despite resource constraints, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of managing the budget according to the government's own capacities.
The delegation informed PM Oli about significant damage to Khotang's connectivity with Tarai districts, particularly the loss of the motorable bridge over the Koshi River at Phoksingtar during the floods.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel also witnessed the submission of the memorandum, alongside Khotang leaders Ram Kumar Rai, Saraswati Bajimaya, and Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, as noted by the PM's secretariat.
