KATHMANDU: A new government was formed because the CPN-UML did not support Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal for a vote of confidence. He sought the vote on Friday from the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) but only 63 of the 258 MPs in parliament supported him. The remaining 194 voted against him, with one lawmaker choosing to remain neutral.

This is the fifth time in PM Dahal's term that he has faced and lost a vote of confidence. He needed at least 138 votes to win the vote of confidence. With the backing of the Nepali Congress, it is now expected that CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli will become the next Prime Minister.
