KATHMANDU: Lumbini Chief Minister Chetnarayan Acharya is scheduled to take a vote of confidence today at 1 pm during a Provincial Assembly meeting. Acharya's appointment followed the formation of a new coalition involving the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, alongside support from several other parties including the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), Janamat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, and an independent MP.
The Provincial Assembly, which has 87 members, includes a diverse distribution of seats with UML holding 29 MPs, Nepali Congress 27, Maoist Center 11, and several smaller parties and independents making up the remainder. Despite the coalition's majority, Acharya faces challenges as the Maoist Center, RPP, Unified Socialist Party, and Rastriya Janamorcha have declared their intention not to support him in the confidence vote.
Acharya's successful vote of confidence will be crucial for maintaining his position and ensuring the stability of the coalition government. The outcome of today's vote will determine if the coalition's strategic alliances can withstand the opposition from these parties and solidify Acharya's leadership in Lumbini.
