KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah has called upon CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli to abstain from engaging in further controversies to overshadow the Giribandhu Tea Estate scandal, which is estimated to involve 100 million rupees. Mayor Balen has accused certain individuals of misleading people by offering land from the Giribandhu Tea Estate in Jhapa within a two-year timeframe. He stressed the importance of focusing on constructive initiatives instead of diverting attention with scandals, urging Oli to prioritize projects like the Ring Road and the Butwal-Chitwan Road.
Mayor Balen raised objections to the resumption of road construction on footpaths along New Road, initiated by the metropolis, and urged Oli to utilize his influence to advance crucial infrastructure projects. He emphasized that not a single leaf would move at the Giribandhu Tea Estate without Oli's knowledge, indicating his presumed involvement in the political scandal surrounding the plantation.
Expressing concern for the victims of the Giribandhu Tea Estate, Mayor Balen called for timely justice and cautioned against potential intervention if justice is delayed. His remarks underscore the urgency of addressing the allegations and ensuring accountability for those involved in the scandal. Mayor Balen's statements reflect a determination to uphold transparency and accountability in governance, prioritizing the welfare of the affected individuals and the integrity of public office.
