KATHMANDU: Last night, the East-West Highway faced significant subsidence at Nawalparasi East, resulting in the obstruction of vehicular movement. The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on Tuesday in the Thumsi jungle area of Gaidakot-9, as reported by the District Police Office, Nawalparasi. Deputy Superintendent of Police Dev Bahadur Paudel stated that the subsidence has blocked two-way traffic on the highway, with ongoing efforts to extricate a trapped truck from the caved-in road.
In addition to the road blockage, a bus (Lu 1 Kha 8413) traveling eastward encountered the subsidence, leading to minor injuries for eight passengers. The driver abruptly braked to avoid the road defect, resulting in the injuries. Currently, authorities are actively working to open the road for one-way traffic, aiming to alleviate the disruption caused by the subsidence.
