The Second Nepali Professionals’ Summit wrapped up in Berlin, Germany, following a two-day event organized collaboratively by the Embassy of Nepal and GIZ, Kathmandu. Held on May 10-11, the summit aimed to create a platform for Nepali professionals residing in Germany to exchange knowledge, skills, and experiences. Jointly inaugurated by Ambassador of Nepal to Germany Ram Kaji Khadka and GIZ Country Manager Florain Krins, the event featured various discussions and presentations.
Ambassador Khadka highlighted Germany's status as a preferred destination for Nepali professionals and expressed optimism about enhancing opportunities for Nepalis, particularly following Germany's recent amendment to its Skilled Migration Act. He mentioned Nepal's efforts, including the establishment of the National Brain Gain Centre, amendments to citizenship laws, and initiatives like the Non-Resident Nepali Act, to encourage diaspora engagement in the country's socio-economic development.
The summit featured panel discussions on diverse topics such as leveraging diaspora knowledge beyond remittances, gender mainstreaming in Nepal, and the post-COVID scenario for Nepal's tourism, with a focus on the role of the Nepali diaspora. Additionally, parallel sessions were held on Climate Change and Energy, Health, and Information Technology and Digitization, with presentations on initiatives like the Diaspora Agri-Entrepreneurship Programme and GIZ's PMD and MEG Programme.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Khadka commended the enthusiastic participation of Nepali diaspora professionals in Germany and encouraged the organization of similar events regularly to foster collaboration and contribute to Nepal's socio-economic transformation. The summit saw the involvement of around 70 professionals from the Nepali diaspora in Germany, along with representatives from various sectors of the Nepali government.
