KATHMANDU: On Sunday, Kami Rita Sherpa achieved a remarkable feat by summiting Mount Everest for the 29th time, breaking his own previous record. He reached the peak of the 8,848-meter Everest at 7:25 am local time. Acting as a senior high-altitude guide for a group of VVIPs, Sherpa embarked on this climb, leading members from two companies—Seven Summits and 14 Peaks—towards the summit.

Born in Thame, Solukhumbu, Sherpa, aged 54, has become synonymous with Everest climbing prowess. His latest achievement adds to an already illustrious climbing career, having stood atop the world's highest peak for the 28th time during the spring season of the previous year. Sherpa's climbing journey began in 1994 when he first conquered Mt. Everest.

Following closely behind Sherpa in the record books is Pasang Dawa Sherpa, also hailing from Solukhumbu, who holds the distinction of the second-highest number of Everest ascents. Last year, Pasang Dawa made his 27th ascent of Sagarmatha. Both Sherpas have demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in their climbing endeavors, contributing significantly to the mountaineering legacy of Nepal.
