KATHMANDU: Mayor Balen Shah of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has strongly advocated for the prosecution of the government, headed by KP Oli, regarding the Giribandhu Tea Estate case situated in Jhapa.
Balen underscored the significance of the recent decision by the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court, which overturned the former Oli-led government's decision to exchange around 344 bighas of land in the Giribandhu Tea Estate case, a matter initially brought to public attention via the social media platform Facebook.
Citing the current estimated value of the land to exceed 10 billion rupees, Balen emphasized the imperative for holding the former Oli-led government accountable for its actions in this case.
He urged those individuals who were deprived of their rightful ownership of the land to pursue legal avenues, emphasizing that all opportunities for reclaiming the land have now been exhausted.
Furthermore, Balen expressed gratitude towards Om Prakash Aryal, the legal advisor of the metropolis, for his pivotal role in safeguarding the country's valuable property through his individual efforts.
