KATHMANDU: In the last 24 hours, Nepal has reported high fatalities from multiple calamities across the country. According to data collected by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), nine people were reported dead due to landslides in Gulmi, Baglung, and Syangja, while one died in Dang due to a lightning strike.
Of all the calamities, a landslide in Gulmi district turned fatal with the toll death of five members of a family. Similarly, a couple in Galkot Municipality-8 of Baglung and a mother along with her daughter in Syangja became victims in two different incidents.
39–year–old Bhumisara Budha Magar of Rajpur Rural Municipality–2 of Dang was struck and killed by lightning. Three people were injured due to natural disasters, according to spokespeople of the NDRRMA, Dr. Dijan Bhattarai.
Nepal has reported a total of 38 causalities in different disasters, with monsoon conditions starting from mid-June. This clearly provides evincive proof that the country is still grappling with the best way to address the impacts of such natural incidences, underlining the need for implementing adequate disaster risk reduction measures.
