KATHMANDU: Since Friday night, Nepal has been experiencing nonstop rain, which is creating issues for both domestic and international flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The severe rain and poor visibility are posing serious operational issues for the airport.
Due to inclement weather at TIA, an Air India flight was rerouted to Varanasi, India, this morning, while a Turkish Airlines flight was diverted to Lucknow, India. The TIA Office announced that numerous scheduled flights had been delayed due to inclement weather.
TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula indicated that while some domestic flights experienced delays, regular flight operations have resumed as the rain subsided and visibility improved. However, the airport continues to manage the impact of the weather on its operations.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, monsoon winds are currently occurring throughout the nation and are predicted to continue today and tomorrow. Particularly in the provinces of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim, it is predicted to rain heavily to extremely heavy.
