KATHMANDU: After two years of unofficial operation, the ride-sharing application inDrive has been officially launched in Nepal. The company announced its official debut, revealing plans to impose a 10 percent commission on drivers for each ride.
Originally based in the United States, inDrive began its operations in Nepal in April 2022. With over 150 million downloads worldwide, it operates in 47 countries. Currently, inDrive's ride-hailing service is available in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan, offering various options such as taxis, motorcycles, deliveries, and intercity rides in Kathmandu.
Having entered the Nepali market with 100 percent foreign direct investment, the company aims to expand its services to more cities in Nepal after conducting research and studying market dynamics. Pavit Nanda Anand, the Asia Pacific region communication lead of inDrive, expressed excitement about the official launch, emphasizing the company's commitment to providing global freedom of choice and its confidence in bringing innovation and creating employment opportunities in Nepal.
Rita Pokharel, director of the company's Nepal operations, stated that inDrive's official launch marks a new chapter in Nepal's ride-hailing industry. The company has partnered with IME to ensure hassle-free and secure payments for all users, enhancing the overall experience for both drivers and passengers.
