KATHMANDU: The Falgundanda Sukilumba Airport in Ilam, closed for the past three months due to monsoon and weather-related issues, is scheduled to resume operations today. Dinesh Sundas, the station in charge, confirmed that flights will start again, though they are contingent on weather improvements. The airport had been inactive since May 26 when a Nepal Airlines aircraft took off, and a subsequent flight on May 30 was forced to return to Kathmandu due to adverse conditions.
There had been several flight disruptions and one canceled scheduled trip prior to last Thursday, which was caused by low passenger numbers and operational problems. There will no longer be two flights on Sundays and Thursdays, but rather just one weekly excursion on Thursdays.
Since January 15, 2023, Nepal Airlines has operated the Kathmandu–Ilam–Kathmandu route. For travelers from Ilam, Panchthar, and surrounding areas of India, the Falgundanda Sukilumba Airport, which is situated in Ilam Municipality-9, is essential since it offers easy access to and from Kathmandu.
