KATHMANDU: A technical problem mid-flight forced Buddha Air to reroute a flight headed for Bhadrapur in Jhapa to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday morning. The plane took off from Kathmandu at 10:37 am and came back for an emergency landing at 11:15 am. It was registered as flight number 953 and had the call sign 9N-AJS.

The problem started when the aircraft's left engine flamed out, around 43 nautical miles east of Kathmandu, according to TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula. At first, Buddha Air said the issue was with the right engine. The aircraft crew made the decision to return to Kathmandu in accordance with regular safety procedures, guaranteeing the security of everyone on board.

The plane, which had four crew members and 72 passengers on board, made a safe and injury-free landing at TIA. To give the emergency landing priority, TIA temporarily suspended operations. Buddha Air verified the incident and reassured passengers that safety was still their first priority in a statement posted on the social media site X.

The airline said, "The aircraft is currently being examined by our technical team." "Plans are in progress to send the passengers on another flight to Bhadrapur." To prevent similar accidents in the future, Buddha Air has committed to carrying out a thorough study into the technical issue.

Actions taken quickly by the aircraft crew and TIA personnel ensured a safe conclusion and underlined the need for strict adherence to aviation safety laws. Buddha Air apologized for the inconvenience the passengers had to endure and is working to get back to normal operations.
