KATHMANDU: Traffic on the Prithvi Highway, which was halted for seven hours due to a landslide at Ghansikuwa in Byas Municipality-12, has now resumed. According to Deputy Superintendent Deepak Kumar Raya of the District Police Office, the landslide debris obstructing the road was cleared using equipment from the Muglin-Pokhara Road Expansion Project. This clearance allowed the highway to reopen for two-way traffic.
Raya noted that the removal process was time-consuming due to the size of the landslide. However, efforts with heavy equipment successfully cleared the road, ensuring normal traffic flow has been restored.
In a separate incident related to landslides, Purandihi Hospital has faced significant damage, affecting its services. Aishwarya Chandra Bhattarai, Chief of the Bhanu Municipality Health Section, reported that the hospital's laboratory and gynecology ward were damaged by a landslide. As a result, these services at the hospital are currently suspended, with only essential medical services being provided.
Hospital administration officials emphasized the impact of the landslide on their ability to deliver critical healthcare services. They stated that until repairs are completed, the affected areas of the hospital will remain non-operational, underscoring the challenges faced in providing comprehensive medical care amidst natural disasters.
