KATHMANDU: The Narayangadh-Butwal road widening project, originally set for completion by July 23, is now facing its second deadline extension.

Launched under an agreement in 2019, the project has seen significant delays. Engineer Shiva Khanal, the project's Information Officer, reported that only 52% of the work in the eastern section in Nawalparasi has been completed.

This eastern section spans 65 kilometers from Narayani Bridge in Gaindakot to Daunne. Of the planned 130 kilometers for both sides of the four-lane road, 44 kilometers have been blacktopped so far.

Khanal confirmed that a 27-kilometer stretch of one-way blacktopped road is currently accessible, with preparations for blacktopping another 6.6 kilometers nearly complete. Ashish Thapa Magar, Project Chief for the eastern section, mentioned that despite the lack of further progress within the current deadline, the China State Construction Engineering Corporation plans to proceed with blacktopping the prepared areas.
