KATHMANDU: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has punished Bangladesh fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib for getting into an argument with Nepal's captain, Rohit Paudel. The ICC said that Sakib will face a 15% punishment on his match fee for violating the cricket code of conduct during Sunday's play.
Sakib got into a brawl with Paudel on the pitch during the third leg of the cricket game, as Nepal attempted to meet Bangladesh's objective of 107 runs. The scene worsened when Sakib shoved Paudel. This behavior violated a regulation in cricket known as Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which states that you cannot touch other players, umpires, referees, or anybody else during an international match.
Field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski together with third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena reported the incident to the ICC. Despite Sakib acknowledging his mistake, the ICC decided to enforce the penalty without calling a further hearing. Despite the confrontation, Bangladesh emerged victorious over Nepal by 21 runs, securing their advancement to the Super 8 stage.
