KATHMANDU: In a new initiative, traffic police have started deploying individuals who violate traffic rules, including those caught driving under the influence, as volunteers on the roads. This move is part of a plan by Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, and these violators were seen assisting traffic police at various intersections in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Previously, on Republic Day, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane announced via social media that female traffic personnel would not be required to work in the field during their menstrual period. This measure aims to provide better working conditions for female officers.

Home Minister Lamichhane stated that individuals found violating traffic regulations, such as drunk drivers, will be assigned to volunteer on the roads during these times, thereby contributing to traffic management and discipline.
