KATHMANDU: On Friday morning, two buses were carried into the Trishuli River by a landslide on the Narayanghat-Mugling route. One of the buses, the Ganapati Deluxe, was carrying 41 people from Kathmandu to Gaur in Rautahat, while the other was carrying 24 passengers from Birgunj to Kathmandu. Three survivors from the Ganapati Deluxe bus are presently undergoing medical attention after narrowly escaping the catastrophe. One of the survivors, Nanda Yadav, detailed the terrifying experience of fleeing via a shattered window as the bus crashed into the river. He suffered brain injuries and is now receiving treatment at Chitwan Medical College.
Gugeshwor Raya, another survivor from Rautahat, also managed to escape but tragically lost four family members in the accident. His family had been returning home after receiving medical treatment in Kathmandu. Raya recounted the bus rolling multiple times before plunging into the river, vividly recalling the chaos and screams of passengers. He too is receiving medical care at Chitwan Medical College.
After getting care for his injuries from the event, Saroj Kumar Gupta has been released from Bharatpur Hospital. Authorities are still looking for the two buses and the other people who are missing, which emphasizes the continuous attempts to deal with the fallout from this terrible incident along a vital transit corridor in Nepal.
