KATHMANDU: The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen), has addressed concerns regarding construction regulations around the Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Tukucha rivers. He emphasized that, according to a Supreme Court order, new structures cannot be erected within 20 meters of the 40-meter boundary of these rivers.
Mayor Shah explained that although building is not allowed in some places, landowners are still free to use their property as they see fit. According to the court's decision, the government must pay landowners compensation if their use of their land is restricted. He asked employees and party officials to refrain from creating misunderstandings regarding these rules.
Mayor Balen stressed that the restrictions are based on a court order, not directives from the city government, and called for accurate communication to the public about the construction limitations.
