KATHMANDU: Prominent advocate for medical education reform, Dr. Govinda KC, has declared that if his six requests are not fulfilled, he will go on a hunger strike. Dr. KC listed his demands and concerns in a press release that was released on Friday. He concentrated on matters pertaining to political appointees, medical field responsibility, and transitional justice.
Dr. KC's demands include a review of a recent Supreme Court ruling he believes undermines the Medical Education Act, the removal of a provincial minister accused of murder, and legal action against a medical professional and lawmaker involved in fake certificate offenses. He also called for justice for war crimes victims, free medicines and treatments for all Nepalis, and the implementation of previously agreed-upon education and health reforms.
Dr. KC criticized the Supreme Court’s decision for potentially allowing substandard hospitals to operate medical colleges, which he argues could make healthcare more expensive and inaccessible. He emphasized the need for reform to ensure quality and equitable access to healthcare and medical education.
