KATHMANDU: On Friday, Richard R. Verma, the US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, touched down in Kathmandu for a brief visit. President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba are among the prominent people he is anticipated to meet with while in the country.
The United States has not engaged at this level since UML Chairman Oli was appointed Prime Minister, until this visit. Verma's team will interact with representatives of development projects and entrepreneurs in addition to political gatherings, where they will talk about issues like as women's empowerment and economic growth.
Deputy Secretary Verma is only in town for a short time because he is leaving for India later in the day. The U.S. Department of State reports that he is scheduled to stay in India till August 22.
