KATHMANDU: The task force assigned to finalize amendments to the Act of the Investigation, Truth, and Reconciliation Commission of Disappeared Persons 2071 has reached a consensus on the changes. Janardan Sharma, a leader from the Maoist Center and a task force member, announced that the meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday morning concluded with an agreement. He stated that all outstanding issues were handled during negotiations at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the report is now ready to be submitted to the senior leaders.
The task force comprises Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, and Janardan Sharma. They intend to hand over the finalized report to the top three leaders by tomorrow evening. According to Sharma, the group has agreed on the legislative changes needed to move the process forward.
Sharma stated that a final agreement on the legal framework has been reached, which will now proceed through the required processes. He emphasized that resolving the remaining four issues with consensus marks a significant achievement. The report will be submitted to the leaders, after which the committee will follow its established procedures.
Sharma also explained the clauses pertaining to the functions of security guards and the distinction between deliberate and voluntary significant human rights breaches. The victims' needs were the main consideration in making these selections.
