KATHMANDU: Manish Shakya, the sole survivor from the July 24 Saurya Airlines tragedy that occurred close to Tribhuvan International Airport, is getting ready to be discharged from Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) Hospital. After the horrible tragedy in which all eighteen passengers on board died, his health has sufficiently improved for discharge preparations to start.
During his hospital stay, Shakya has been reluctant to discuss the crash in detail. He mentioned that the aircraft went out of control shortly after takeoff. Hospital director Dr. Meena Thapa has advised against asking too many questions, as it could stress Shakya and negatively affect his recovery. Shakya, who sustained severe injuries to his nose and spinal cord, will require further treatment at home before he can return to work.
NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka visited Shakya at the hospital and indicated that once Shakya’s condition stabilizes completely, he will share more about the incident during the inquiry meeting. Khadka noted that Shakya has expressed gratitude for surviving the crash, reflecting on the experience as if he had been given a second chance at life.
