KATHMANDU: In the month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) of the current fiscal year 2024/25, the Rasuwa Customs Office saw a significant increase in revenue, collecting Rs 1.54 billion compared to Rs 1.03 billion in the same period last year. This boost is attributed to the import of various items, including shoes, electronic goods, vehicles, and fruits, as well as Chinese equipment for hydropower projects.
Despite the increase in revenue, road safety issues have become a major concern. The heavy equipment being transported, which exceeds the road's capacity, is raising the risk of landslides on the Pasang Lhamu Highway and potential damage to bridges. Local residents have called for urgent regulation and maintenance to address these safety issues.
Additionally, the 16 km Syabrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road, crucial for revenue generation, is plagued by potholes and road damage due to the heavy freight. This has made transportation challenging, affecting both freight and passenger services. Incomplete maintenance work at Bharkhu Danda and ongoing road issues are exacerbating problems for travelers, particularly those undertaking the Mansarovar-Kailash pilgrimage.
