KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee, which is investigating the alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds, will question Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), on August 23. Lamichhane is being investigated for suspected embezzlement involving funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, and Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan. The investigation also includes claims that these funds were redirected through Gorkha Media.
The Committee is in the process of gathering statements from directors and shareholders of nearly 100 problematic cooperatives across the country, including those mentioned in the case. Surya Thapa, Chairman of the Committee, stated that the process of collecting statements is almost complete, and the focus is now on drafting the final report.
Both Rabi Lamichhane and Chabilal Joshi Banjade, who is also connected to the Gorkha Media case, are scheduled to provide their statements on August 23. Banjade, a business partner of GB, the owner of Galaxy Television, has been linked to Rai since the channel’s inception. The Committee has indicated that evidence suggests Lamichhane and others were involved in the embezzlement of funds by transferring money from various cooperatives.
