KATHMANDU: During September 26–28, Nepal experienced torrential rainfall that resulted in landslides, flooding, and inundation, which claimed the lives of 246 people. According to the Nepal Police, these calamities have left 178 people injured and 18 persons unaccounted for. Thus far, 1,774 individuals have been saved by rescue efforts.
Particularly hard hit is Bagmati Province, where 139 deaths have been reported in the Kathmandu Valley alone. The calamities have caused enormous damage to both lives and property, adversely hurting multiple towns.
In line with the "Disaster Victim Rescue and Relief Guidelines, 2077," relief funds have already been distributed to 176 families who lost loved ones in the disasters. Financial aid and relief materials are being actively provided to the affected families.
Rehabilitative and relief activities are still in progress, according to Ministry of Home Affairs spokeswoman Rishiram Tiwari. Assistance for those affected by natural disasters has been given top priority by the government.
The Home Minister has established a team to oversee rehabilitation activities and expedite the provision of aid. The group wants to make sure that initiatives for emergency relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction are completed efficiently and on schedule.
The ministry is also committed to resuming safe vehicle traffic throughout the nation by removing impediments from highways and constructing alternate routes as needed.
