PM Oli to lead Nepali delegation at 79th UNGA session in New York

KATHMANDU: A delegation from Nepal is scheduled to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN headquarters in New York, under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. 


With "Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations" as the theme of this year's General Debates, he is expected to address the General Assembly on September 26.


On September 24, Prime Minister Oli will take part in the General Debate's Opening Session. On September 25, he will go to a reception given by US President Joseph Biden.


Oli will speak at the Summit of the Future and take part in high-level discussions on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and sea level rise in his capacity as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of Least Developed Countries (LDCs).


On September 23, Oli will also give a keynote address at Columbia University about the political and economic development of Nepal. On September 27, he will speak at Harvard University about Nepal's views on climate justice and transitional justice.


The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Prime Minister will have bilateral discussions while the Prime Minister is in New York, off the UNGA schedule.


Coming back to Kathmandu on September 30th is Prime Minister Oli, accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other officials.
