KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli reinforced the need for industries to pay for the electricity they use during a session in the House of Representatives on Monday. He stated that industries must settle their electricity bills, asserting, “We are here not to play games or indulge in slander but to work for the nation and its people.”
Oli stressed the importance of maintaining the government's integrity and the reputation of the House. He urged that accountability for baseless accusations is crucial, emphasizing that the chamber should not become a forum for falsehoods and excessive noise.
Defending the government's action against industries with disputed power supply due to unpaid tariffs, PM Oli asserted that while arrears must be collected, industries that do not use electricity should still fulfill their tariff obligations. He reiterated his commitment to transparency and integrity throughout his decades of public service.
In response to questions from a Maoist Center lawmaker about his directive to restore electricity connections to industries in dispute, Oli acknowledged that political differences are natural but urged members to engage in constructive discussions rather than impulsive accusations.
