KATHMANDU: The special parliamentary inquiry committee investigating the misappropriation of savings funds from cooperatives has recorded a statement from Bipin Acharya, the Joint General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Acharya’s testimony was taken during a committee meeting at Singha Durbar on Sunday. Acharya, who previously worked as a Creative Director at Gorkha Media Network, was linked to transactions involving the Suryadarshan Savings and Loans Cooperative in Pokhara and the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, which had invested in Gorkha Media Network.

The committee's review of documents revealed Acharya’s involvement in these transactions, including the use of funds withdrawn from the cooperatives for personal purposes. Rabi Lamichhane, the current RSP Chairman, and Acharya's former colleague at Gorkha Media Network, was also scheduled to be questioned on Sunday. However, the agenda was modified due to an increased number of informants providing additional statements.

The committee member noted that Acharya was found to be conducting business dealings with both Suryadarshan and Supreme Cooperatives during his tenure at Gorkha Media Network. The investigation is focused on uncovering the details of these transactions and their implications for the misappropriated funds.
