KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has effectively reduced electricity leakage from its distribution and transmission networks by 50% over the preceding eight years. Leakage rates decreased to 12.73% in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS from 25.78% in the year before.
Leakage in distribution networks is 9.40%, whereas it is 3.33 percent in transmission lines. These percentages were 5.98% and 19.80%, respectively, eight years ago. Over the years, the NEA has reduced annual leakage rates by improving its leakage management methods on a regular basis.
The NEA reports that its efforts have saved Rs 12 billion annually through reduced leakage. The authority now aims to lower the leakage rate further to a single-digit percentage.
