KATHMANDU: Due to massive floods and landslides brought on by the nonstop rain starting on Friday, Mandu Hydropower has had to stop producing electricity. Damage to the powerhouse and headworks of the 22 MW project in Bhimphedi, Makwanpur, has been extensive.
Company representatives claim that because of the disruptions to the plant's operations, they are unable to control the current situation. The full extent of the destruction is still unknown while assessments are being carried out to determine the impact of the water on the region.
Mandu Hydropower is one of the initiatives whose infrastructure is most negatively impacted by the major issues the rising Bagmati River has brought about.
In response to the flooding and its aftermath, authorities are actively monitoring the situation in order to offer information and put the required recovery measures into place.
