The Japanese government has decided to give Nepal financial assistance of ¥454,000,000 (about Rs 417 million) for the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS). Kikuta Yutaka, the Japanese ambassador to Nepal, and Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire, the secretary of the Ministry of Finance, signed notes formalizing this agreement. Under the JDS program, government personnel from Nepal can enroll in two-year Master's and three-year PhD programs at respected Japanese universities.

The JDS program has invited 187 government officials from Nepal to Japan since its beginning. The intention is for these JDS Fellows to become leaders who will contribute to the development of Japan-Nepal bilateral ties by using their advanced education to design and carry out socioeconomic strategies in that country. The JDS Fellows are anticipated to significantly advance Nepal's development and strengthen relations between the two nations, according to the Japan Embassy in Kathmandu.

During the note-signing ceremony, Ambassador Kikuta praised the successful operation of the JDS program in Nepal, noting the establishment of the JDS Alumni Association this year. He expressed admiration for the JDS fellows' commitment, who are leveraging their experiences for personal and professional growth while working to amplify the program’s impact.

The Ambassador conveyed optimism that the JDS program will continue to support capable Nepali officials, enhancing their skills to effectively implement projects and policies in Nepal. The Japanese Embassy remains confident that the program will meet its objectives and further fortify the relationship and cooperation between Japan and Nepal.
