KATHMANDU: To avoid any shortages during the approaching festivals, the government has given permission for the Food Management & Trade Company (FMTC) and the Salt Trading Corporation (STC) to import a combined 30,000 metric tons of sugar.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung announced that each organization will be allowed to import 15,000 metric tons of sugar with a 50 percent customs duty waiver.

This decision aims to ensure a steady and sufficient supply of sugar for the Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals, helping to stabilize the market and meet consumer demand during the festive season.
