KATHMANDU: Nabin Singh, a spokeswoman for Nepal's Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, announced that the energy ministers of Bangladesh, India, and Nepal will meet on July 28 to sign an agreement governing energy trade between the three nations. Previously, Nepal and Bangladesh reached an arrangement under which Bangladesh may buy electricity from Nepal. Under the planned agreement, Nepal would be able to supply electricity to Bangladesh via the Indian transmission network.
After everything is agreed upon, Bangladesh would import 40 megawatts of power produced in Nepal every year for the six months of the monsoon season. With the completion of all required procedures, according to NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising, electricity exports to Bangladesh can now begin this year.
As per the agreement, throughout the next five years, from June 15 to November 15, Nepal will export 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh annually. Once the export of power begins, the Nepal Power Authority (NEA) expects to receive 6.40 cents per unit.
