KATHMANDU: Over the previous eight years, Nepal's electricity usage has dramatically increased. 3.72 billion units were consumed overall in the fiscal year 2072–2023. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), this number increased by 6.51 billion units to 10.2 billion by the fiscal year 2080–2081. This considerable increase in consumption is the result of expanding national power access as well as rising demand.

The most recent fiscal year saw the consumption of 4.31 billion units domestically and 3.69 billion units for industrial use. The per capita consumption also increased by more than twice, from 131 to 400 units, throughout the same period. Significant progress is indicated by the rise in energy availability and consumption among the general public.

Eight years ago, Nepal suffered from significant daily load shedding; power outages might last up to eight hours during the monsoon season and up to fourteen hours in the winter, according to projections. However, by the beginning of 2075 BS, Nepal had entirely abandoned load shedding. Over the previous eight years, the percentage of families with access to electricity has climbed dramatically from 58% to 99%.
