KATHMANDU: Between mid-August and mid-September of this year, or the end of Bhadra, the Birgunj Customs Office shipped goods valued at Rs 5.263 billion. Compared to the Rs 5.293 billion in products exported at the same time previous fiscal year, this sum reflects a slight decrease.
The export of mustard cake increased significantly, with 6.953 million kg exported, valued at Rs 495.92 million, according to Deepak Lamichhane, chief customs administrator of the Birgunj Customs Office.
Apart from mustard cake, by the end of Bhadra current fiscal year, almost 1.4568 million kg of synthetic yarn valued at Rs 333.39 million had been shipped. Compared to the previous fiscal year's export of 838,140 kg of synthetic yarn, valued at Rs 203.66 million, this represents a significant increase.
By the end of Bhadra in the current fiscal year, 1.79160 million kilograms of "MS steel strip" had been sold, bringing in Rs 129.32 million in revenue. This is another area of activity in the export market.
Nevertheless, the amount of woolen carpets exported has decreased; 54,182 square meters were shipped for Rs 118.2 million. In comparison to the same period previous year, this indicates a 20.43 percent decline.
Conversely, there has been a rise in the export of juice and jam, totaling 13.645 million liters at a value of Rs 1.293 billion. This data indicates a 5.11 percent increase in exports as compared to the same time in the previous fiscal year.
In addition, the Birgunj Customs Office's overall export data for this fiscal year include the export of about 67,380 kg of dog or cat food, valued at Rs 117.98 million, by the end of Bhadra.
The wide variety of products that are exported from the Birgunj Customs Office shows how demand is fluctuating across different industries. For example, demand for woolen carpets is declining while demand for other products is rising.
