KATHMANDU: Internet users across Nepal encountered slow speeds as Airtel's network faced routing issues, impacting internet services nationwide. Airtel, a significant provider of bandwidth in Nepal, experienced signal fluctuations, leading to connectivity problems for users.
Service providers like Worldlink and Vianet reported a surge in complaints regarding sluggish internet speeds. Binay Bohra, managing director of Vianet, attributed the slowdown to Airtel's network issues, specifically mentioning signal instability affecting internet connectivity.
Bohra stated, "There is a problem with Airtel's network. The signal is fluctuating, causing internet issues in Nepal. We have received information about routing problems with Airtel, and they are working to resolve the issue."
This occurrence adds to recent incidents affecting Nepal's internet services. On May 24, internet providers, including Worldlink, experienced disruptions when fiber optics from Airtel and other providers were severed in Sunauli, India. Given Airtel's significant role as a bandwidth supplier, the stability of its network is paramount for Nepal's internet infrastructure.
