KATHMANDU: A dispute has emerged between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the Department of Road concerning road work in the New Road area. The conflict arose when the road department initiated the pitching of a road that had previously been excavated by the KMC for footpath expansion. Tensions escalated as KMC police intervened, leading to a confrontation between the two parties.
At present, discussions are underway between KMC police and road department officials to address the dispute. The disagreement stems from KMC's decision to excavate the road in order to expand the footpath area in New Road, despite objections from the Road Division Office. The Road Division Office had instructed KMC to maintain the road in its original state, but the metropolis proceeded with its plans regardless. Subsequently, the Road Division Office took unilateral action and commenced pitching the road on Monday morning.
Efforts are being made to resolve the conflict through ongoing discussions between KMC police and road department officials. The disagreement highlights differing perspectives between the two entities regarding the appropriate course of action for road maintenance and development in the New Road area.
