KATHMANDU: An initiative aimed at addressing heart issues among underprivileged students in Nepalgunj has successfully provided free heart check-ups and counseling services to 200 students from community schools. Tejashwi Heart Centre and Lions Club of Nepalgunj Life collaborated to organize a three-day camp at Yuddha Sanskrit Secondary School, where senior cardiologist Dr. Bikas Nepal led the examinations and counseling sessions.
Dr. Nepal performed echocardiography on all 200 children aged five to 17 years in the camp, detecting some cases of rheumatic heart disease. He stressed the necessity of such efforts for early identification and treatment of heart disease, emphasizing the enormous benefits they provide to low-income children.
The school administration expressed gratitude for the health services offered, emphasizing the camp's good influence on the community. Dr. Nepal emphasized the increased occurrence of rheumatic heart disease among children and asked parents to be alert in spotting signs, emphasizing that prompt treatment can frequently result in a complete recovery.
Doctors also explained that rheumatic heart disease might develop from tonsillitis caused by streptococcus bacteria if treatment is delayed. This project, which aimed to teach parents and the community about early intervention and preventative measures in addition to providing necessary medical treatment, showed a commitment to the well-being of underprivileged children through accessible healthcare and awareness campaigns.
