KATHMANDU: Health and Population Minister Pradip Paudel has emphasized that doctors working in government hospitals are prohibited from working in private hospitals and clinics during their duty hours. Speaking to journalists in Chitwan, he said, "They should be available when working in the government hospital."
In order to enforce this rule, hospitals and departments are putting the Ministry's recently released recommendations into practice, Minister Paudel further disclosed. Although he recognized that there had been some difficulties during the early phases of implementation, he gave his word that these concerns would be resolved quickly.
The Minister of Health reaffirmed the government's resolve to handle problems in the health sector. He underlined that as changes in the industry cannot be expected to provide results right away, improvements would come gradually.
Paudel shared that the government is actively working to make health services more efficient, streamline health insurance systems, and regulate medicine prices. He expressed confidence that these measures will contribute to the overall improvement of the health sector.
"We have started many works such as making health services effective, managing health insurance, and adjusting the prices of medicines, and they are being implemented," said Paudel, highlighting the Ministry’s efforts to bring reforms to the healthcare system.
One of the key initiatives he discussed was the proposal to increase health insurance coverage to Rs 500,000, which has already been approved by the Council of Ministers. This measure is aimed at providing better financial protection for citizens seeking healthcare.
“Our proposal will be accepted by the Council of Ministers, and immediately after the proposal is accepted, the insurance of Rs 500 thousand will be implemented,” Paudel announced, signaling the government's readiness to enforce this crucial policy.
Minister Paudel emphasized that while the progress of these reforms may not be felt overnight, the government is dedicated to taking a path of continuous improvement in the health sector. He reassured the public that gradual changes will help address longstanding challenges in healthcare management.
The Minister’s remarks reflect the government's proactive approach to enhancing healthcare services, addressing operational issues, and expanding insurance coverage for the betterment of public health in Nepal.
