Private school owners and principals protested at Maitighar on Thursday, voicing their concern about the Draft School Education Bill, which they say does not address their needs.
The protesters, who were holding black placards, had gathered at the Maitighar before marching from New Baneshwor Chowk back to the Maitighar roundabout. Announcements requested that dedicated placards remain in place, however, some placards were removed during the demonstration.
The Higher Institutions School Association of Nepal (HISAN), PABSON, and National Private and Boarding Schools Organization (N-PABSON ) organized the demonstration. Demonstrators also called for the removal of clauses that require private schools to give scholarships of up to 15% of the schools full enrollment and be converted into non-profit institutions.
If the bill is adopted in its current form, the organizations warned it will seriously impede the operations of private schools throughout the country.
