KATHMANDU: Authorities at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) apprehended a woman, identified as Maiya Budhathoki, aged 40 and hailing from Chandragiri Municipality-13, on Saturday afternoon. She was taken into custody by airport police after being found in possession of approximately 70 grams of gold.
The arrest occurred when airport authorities discovered a gold ring weighing around 70 grams in her possession, suspected to have been obtained illegally to evade customs duties. It is alleged that Budhathoki attempted to smuggle the gold into the country by exploiting passengers arriving from foreign countries.
Following her arrest, Maiya Budhathoki has been transferred to the TIA Customs Office for further investigation and necessary legal action to be taken in accordance with the law.
