Foreign national arrested in Kathmandu with cocaine worth Rs 40 million

KATHMANDU: A foreign national, Bhamara Kon from Ivory Coast, was arrested in Thamel, Kathmandu, with cocaine valued at around Rs 40 million. The arrest took place on Sunday when police found 1 kg 88 grams of cocaine in his possession.


Prem Bahadur Shahi of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) disclosed that Kon was arrested at a hotel in Jyatha, Thamel. Kon had flown on Qatar Airlines to arrive in Nepal on August 19. Sixty-nine capsules holding cocaine were stashed inside a toy.


Preliminary investigations indicate that Kon transported the cocaine from Nigeria, entering Kathmandu through Ethiopia and Doha. The NCB has initiated legal action against him under the Narcotics Control Act, 2033 (1976).
