6 arrested in Lalitpur for illegal gold and silver trading

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur police have detained six people, four of whom are Indian citizens, for unlawful gold and silver dealing. A squad from the Satdobato Police Circle conducted a raid on a leased residence in Lalitpur Metropolitan-14, Talchikhel, after receiving a report about suspicious activity there. One of the people arrested is Yuvraj Vibhute, a 28-year-old Indian national who had rented the premises and was identified as the main operator of the illegal operation.


During the raid, authorities seized a substantial amount of illegal goods, including 1,587.51 kg of gold and 1,153.22 kg of silver. Tests confirmed the authenticity of these seized items. Additionally, police found Rs 5.83 million in cash and INR 8,550, along with various equipment used for illegal trading such as digital scales, weighing machines, gold melting machines, and a carat meter.


The arrested individuals, besides Yuvraj Vibhute, include Vikram Yalwar (20), Abhishek Vibhute (18), both residents of Maharashtra, India, and two other Indian nationals, as well as Vijay Sampat (21) from Solapur, Maharashtra, currently residing in Kathmandu, Siddhant Chaulagain (20) from Bhaktapur, and Yashwant Sunar (20) from Lalitpur. Alongside the seized goods, police also confiscated several electronic devices, documents, and other materials related to the illegal trading activities.
